Look What I Found
It’s amazing what you find when you move.
I found this letter from General Electric confirming that I had successfully deployed their FIRST Artificial Intelligence application in 1995 that identified $400k in upsell opportunities.
My manager was very supportive of giving me the time and resources to innovate – I had five x86 machines stacked in my office working 24x7 for several weeks to converge on a solution.
Fast forward to today, we have much better access to structured data and compute power to make AI a reality. I needed leadership from my manager to pull this off, and that won’t ever change.
As leaders, we need to support our engineers by giving them the time, space, and resources to build upon their ideas, help them to figure things out, trust them to move their ideas to completion and finally, to reward them, regardless of the outcome.

Great find Geoff!
Back in the day you had to write your own backprop neural network. Hats off.
Wow 1995! I bet not many people knew about artificial intelligence back then! Impressive
Hope you enjoyed the $100 Night on the Town! That’s hilarious…
